Financial Management & Revenue Generation

  • Advised changes to the management of over $10 million in cash on our balance sheet to safer investments that paid better; this move earned the city more than $1,000,000.

  • Proposed the creation of a 10-year financial tool to guide financial decision-making. Staff is actively working on this.

  • Championed a comprehensive facilities assessment of all city-owned buildings and property to understand the liability in deferred maintenance. Staff is actively working on this.

  • Pushed for hiring a professional property manager to maximize revenue from 110 city-owned properties. The hire resulted in significantly increased revenue for the city, with over $1 million projected over the next five years.

City Infrastructure & Facilities

  • Facilitated the breaking of the logjam slowing down the spending of a $2,400,000 federal grant on improvements in the hardscape of the downtown area surrounding the ferry landing.

  • Promoted the daylighting of part of Willow Creek as part of the new school construction.

  • Proposed a pilot project where homeowners would voluntarily fund the undergrounding of wires near their homes, with the city handling the paperwork and administration. Some steps were taken, but more can and should be done.

Cultural & Community Development

  • Encouraged a non-commercial cultural use of the former Bank of America building in the heart of downtown, which is now the Sausalito Center for the Arts.

  • Helped unify the business community to form Sausalito’s first Business Improvement District, promising a win-win for taxpayers, residents, and business owners.

  • Successfully advocated for extending Jazz by the Bay past its usual end date in August, well into mid-September.

  • Contributed to the team that provided closed session guidance on humanely engaging with and successfully closing Sausalito’s homeless encampment.

  • Preserved the parklets serving Caledonia restaurants between Johnson and Pine Street while recopening Caledonia to north-bound traffic.

  • Actively supported creating the ban on gas-powered leaf blowers.

Building Back Our City Staff

  • Assisted in recruiting our Finance Director.

  • Supported our City Manager.

  • Endorsed pay packages for police and employees to reduce losses of our best people to neighboring communities.

  • Suggested extending the title and role of our Director of Community Development to include economic development. Sausalito now has its first Economic Development Officer.

  • Supported City Manager in negotiating a contract that reduced staff turnover by 60% and improved morale.
