Dear Neighbor,
I am Ian Sobieski, your current Mayor, and I am running for re-election to Sausalito’s City Council.
I bring realistic solutions to manage our budget, fix potholes and streets, protect our small-town character, preserve our Working Waterfront, and enhance residents' quality of life.
I'm an entrepreneur and finance guy, and the Marin Independent Journal endorsed me stating that "SOBIESKI is a problem solver.” The Marin IJ also endorsed other problem-solving candidates: Melissa BLAUSTEIN and Steven WOODSIDE.
Compare this to the other candidates who you might have received mailers from. They are full of complaints but offer no real solutions.
For example, one threat to our town's character is that the state is requiring us to permit 724 units of new housing or lose our local control over building.
But one of the "no real solutions" candidates opposed a specific urban planning solution that could have avoided the giant building in our historic district.
I voted against spending $860,000 of your tax dollars on a housing consultant that did not include urban planning.
Many European cities manage to preserve their historic character while also providing housing for workers, artists, and young families. So can we!
With an urban planning process, we could design housing that truly complements our small-town character, respects industrial maritime work without causing disruption, and provide sufficient parking and traffic flow to meet the needs of the community.
